Waste Management

The main organization to deal with waste in the oil sands region is the Waste Management Stakeholder Group which focuses particularly pollution prevention and emissions.

The Waste Management Stakeholder Group

Formed in 2003, the Waste Management Stakeholder Group, promotes discussion on waste management between the oilfield, hazardous waste, agriculture, and forestry industries as well as the municipality. These discussions are designed to encourage information sharing and the development of innovative solutions to reduce the amount of waste being generated by each industry. Alberta Environment is supporting the group and encouraging action within the different sectors.

In the Spring of 2007 revisions were made to the Alberta user Guide for Waste Managers and the Waste Control Regulation (a regulation under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act) in consultation with WMSG (AENV, 2007b).
