Temperature Variation in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo

Temperatures in the Wood Buffalo region show strong seasonal variation, as seen in in the graph to the right.

Fort Chipewyan is colder than Fort McMurray in all months, with mean temperatures above 0°C from only May to October.

Day-night variation in temperature is generally similar at Fort McMurray and Fort Chipewyan (shown in the bottom graph to the right). However, during summer (June to August) the differences between daily maximum and minimum temperatures were slightly smaller at Fort Chipewyan, possibly due to the moderating influence of Lake Athabasca.
